The multi-planetary architectural and technology design agency AI SpaceFactory launched its first space-tech eco-habitat, TERA, on Indiegogo. Nestled in the woods of Upstate New York with sweeping views of the Hudson River, TERA will be a high-tech, luxe eco-home that’s unlike any other on this planet. The futuristic B&B retreat will be situated on acres of undisturbed nature just 1.5 hours by train from NYC and be available on a nightly basis for up to two adults and one child. Developed from the same designs and 3D printing technologies behind the company’s NASA-award-winning Mars habitat MARSHA, each stay will offer a glimpse into the future of sustainable life on and beyond our planet.

“We realized the materials and technology we developed for long-term missions on Mars had the potential to be leaps and bounds more sustainable than conventional construction on Earth,” said David Malott, AI SpaceFactory’s CEO and chief architect. “TERA will challenge everything we know about architecture and construction. It could transform the way we build on Earth – maybe even save our planet.”

With TERA, AI SpaceFactory aims to curb the massive footprint of conventional building practices that rely on energy- and waste- intensive materials. Concrete is the second-most consumed substance in the world after water, with 10 billion tons produced every year – only 20 percent of which is recyclable. Using plant-based materials tested by NASA and found to be up to three times as strong as concrete, TERA will be a proof-of-concept for a new type of building – one that can be harvested from the earth and returned to the earth. Designed to be minimally invasive to its surrounding environment, it can be broken down, recycled and re-printed elsewhere without leaving any trace on the land it once inhabited.

“Astronauts often talk about gaining a profound appreciation of Earth when they look back at our Planet from Space, but we shouldn’t have to leave our Home in order to reach that realization,” said Sima Shahverdi, AI SpaceFactory lead designer, “The entire experience of TERA – from the design to the off-grid lifestyle – was crafted with this in mind.”

TERA will be 3D printed on-site and retro-fitted with the most advanced technological and eco-friendly products, emphasizing the beauty of its natural environment while promoting a new, sustainable way of living on this Planet.
TERA is now accepting limited pre-bookings for nightly stays (up to two adults and one child) starting March 2020. For more information and to pre-book your stay, visit: https://igg.me/at/tera/
