From the architect: Beirut nowadays became a place where it is hard to find accessible rates for quality accommodation. That’s why micro-apartments and small spaces start having more and more popularity offering quality spaces. Downsizing became trendy.
This tiny apartment is located on the roof of a charming old building in the center of Achrafieh, a walking distance away from everything you might need (food, shopping, partying..). The space in itself is a small open white space with plenty of natural light, a huge terrace and a spectacular view over traditional Beirut houses.
The brief of the client was fairly simple: to create a fluid space, capable of providing a sleep space for two people and accommodating around five people.
Our intention: A powerful sense of pleasure, simplicity, ease and efficiency in a 16 square meters space.
The entire unit has been designed to maximize the access of natural light by creating a flexible space that can evolve and transform into efficient functions adapted for a short stay visitors.
The double bed, facing a large window, is provided with storage and electrical plugs from each side so each person can place their small belongings before sleeping (glasses, books, phones…). It’s also equipped with lighting that hangs from the ceiling, perfect for a late night read.
The desk has specialized storage for phones, pencils and laptops so if someone needs to focus and work they will be well organised. The couch is a special item that is provided with a storage for books and magazines, a coffee table and a cup holder/trash bin/foot rest, all tucked under it. It is the perfect place to sit down and relax after a long day outside.
Two chairs come out from beneath the dining table which is then by itself rolled out to accommodate visitors who can enjoy a sunny breakfast or a cozy dinner. Nearly every surface conceals hidden elements and storage, which contribute to the magic and cleverness of the small space afforded.
