Designed by Claudia Pelizzari Interior Design. Sotto le antiche Volte project is an apartment is situated in the heart of Renaissance Florence, on the first floor of a perfectly restored palace built around a beautiful colonnaded courtyard designed by Filippo Brunelleschi.

Project's description: A single flight of stairs in Pietra Serena leads up to the apartment, where the ancient terracotta flooring has been restored and preserved. The dining room features a round table by Claudia Pelizzari. The base is finished with an open-pore stain in black, while the top has a saw-cut finish and edging in acid-etched brass. At the center of the cross vault, a lamp composed of intertwining brass rings, in the form of irregular trapezoids, creates constantly changing plays of light and shadow on the antique walls in plastered stone. A very light shade was chosen for the walls to contrast sharply with the high skirting in faded black, edged with a thin strip of gold leaf, and with the doors painted with a mat finish in the same color as the skirting. A sand-colored woven straw rug is positioned under the table and chairs, the latter upholstered in dark gray velvet. The walls are adorned with colorful contemporary artworks, alternated by abstract, highly textured pieces in earth tones.

The Amsterdam blue of the living room walls reiterates the tones of the frescoes on the vaulted ceiling. Here, the colors are more daring with respect to the dining room, with two armchairs in aquamarine velvet and a sofa bed in light sand-colored raw linen, contrasted by cushions in lemon yellow. Flanking the sofa are side tables in iron with galvanized zinc finish and tops in antique mirror. Each supports a lamp with a treelike branched structure and silver finish. The coffee table features two levels in unfinished wood and frame in natural-finish iron. The sideboard, in Macassar ebony, is suspended above the floor by means of a slender tubular structure in acid-etched brass.

The kitchen extends along two walls, with surfaces in a play on tones of gray. The worktop is in extra-white Corian, while the shelf, in chromed steel with integrated LED lighting, ties in with the toe-kick along both sides of the kitchen. The glass splashguard is back-painted in dark gray.

The walls of the master bedroom repeat the Amsterdam blue of the living room, while the furnishings are all in neutral colors. The curtains in raw linen harmonize with the straw floor mats. The bed, with padded headboard in gray cotton and linen, is accompanied by two round nightstands with slender structure in painted iron. The simple forms of the floor lamps and table lamps fit into this special historic context with distinction.

The original bathroom tiles, in gray and white marble squares, have been preserved. Resin wall coatings in dark gray, along with taps and fittings in brushed nickel, create a harmonious whole.

The living room, in shades of peacock blue (based on the colors in the frescoes of the vaulted ceiling). Custom-designed sofa in sand-colored raw linen; coffee table on two levels, in salvaged wood with structure in natural-finish iron; rug in natural fiber in the color taupe.

Kitchen by Claudia Pelizzari with matt finishes in tones of gray and bridged top in extra-white Corian; glass splashguard, back-painted in dark gray; shelf and toe-kick in chromed steel with integrated LED lighting. Curtains in Belgian linen and curtain rods in natural-finish iron.
