From the architect: 13 Crestwood Drive is located on the boundary line between Barrie and Oro-Medonte in Barrie’s coveted North Shore neighbourhood. The home is situated on a sloping hillside with mature hardwood trees overlooking the northern shore of Kempenfelt Bay. This design-focused; contemporary home is full of awe-inspiring moments. From approaching the home and walking through its grand foyer, to savouring its numerous views connecting the home to nature, 13 Crestwood has achieved a living experience that is comfortable, inspiring and effortless.
The architecture is defined by its striking contemporary form, materiality and thoughtful design decisions. The home was carefully placed into the hillside, creating minimal disruption to the natural landscape and surrounding wood lot. All direct sightlines from the street into the property were minimized. In contrast, the light permeable back maximizes the spectacular vistas framing the mature forest and lake. This maintains the owner’s privacy while also feeling open, making the home comfortable, intimate and light.
Each space in the home has a special moment to experience. The foyer greets you with light from a 30-foot opening containing the staircase and a large window illuminating the space. There is a continuous connection to nature from thoughtful design decisions like the living room's 20-foot-tall sliding wall system, or the glass walled elevator, which provides forest views when retiring to the bedrooms on the upper levels.
Unique and intriguing design decisions were made to either maximize comfort, minimize excessive materials or connect the home to its natural surroundings. Even the hidden details of the home have all been considered, such as the flooring radiating warmth or hot water recirculation system that provides instant hot water when any faucet is opened.
Wherever possible natural materials were used without excess. These details complement each other to create a home that is calm, comfortable and inspiring.
