From the architect: At the confluence of mountain and sea, Malveira da Serra’s architectural project carefully integrates with the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, creating a subtle transition between urban and rural landscapes. The surrounding area is characterised by large residences and vernacular architecture, with stone walls and cottages that reinforce the historic character of the region.

The project consists of two residences that blend discreetly into the landscape, with only two floors above ground. Situated on a promontory, the houses offer privileged views of the surrounding countryside, and the topography is respected by means of a rocky slope preserved in its natural state. The use of natural elements of the site, such as cantilevered slabs that extend horizontally, creates continuity between the interior and exterior spaces and ensures a visual connection with the landscape.

Vertical surfaces of cyclopean concrete, using local stone, provide a visual integration with the landscape, while the smooth concrete slabs provide a textural contrast, highlighting the architectural elements. Solar orientation has been carefully studied to maximise natural light and energy efficiency. The design also includes the integration of artistic elements that enrich the spaces with identity and expression.

With a strong commitment to sustainability, the project includes reforestation with native species, promoting biodiversity and ensuring that the development is in harmony with the existing ecosystem. The result is a living environment that blends naturally into the landscape, where architecture and nature coexist in balance.
