From the architect: In collaboration with interior designer Karen Butler, whilst corresponding with the client working overseas, the apartment was slowly and consciously built, to achieve the refined and sophisticated residence desired.

The harsh light of the high-level apartment is countered with rich, dark surfaces of varying textural qualities and reflectance, imbuing subtle depth in, at first, a seemingly sleek palette, designed to highlight and showcase the client's collection of unique objects. Existing timber parquetry flooring was recovered and given a new life with a warm dark stain, beneath rare Galapagos stone used for the Poliform kitchen bench, further imbuing the space with the stern elegance that the client was seeking. This bold contrast of light and dark is carried through to the ensuite renovation with softly speckled, recycled glass mosaic tiles and solid brass fittings and custom joinery.
