From the architect: The client's brief was to design the interior of a newly built family house. It is located in a small village, on a single street with newly emerging residential buildings. The house, like the entire street, retains the character and small scale of rural living.

The rural context encouraged and inspired simplicity and modesty. The concept of the design was based on natural materials, limiting their diversity and exoticism to a minimum. The primary materials used in the interior were natural wood in the form of oak and spruce, natural stone, and ceramics.

We first met with the clients and the construction company directly on site when the shell structure was completed. The house was single-story, axially symmetrical, and its structure was beautifully simple: besides the outer walls, there were only two supporting frames in the middle of the open space that supported the open roof along the axis. Our first step was to modify the non-load-bearing partitions to simplify and enhance efficiency compared to the original design, making it more suitable for the clients.

The ceiling in the elevated generous living spaces with an open roof was addressed for acoustic reasons and greater comfort by adding wooden slats made of light, bleached spruce. This light and soft material was also reflected in the wardrobes, built-in closets, and the partition with sliding doors in the hallway.

It was complemented by oak flooring, which seamlessly transitioned into the kitchen unit, made from an identical supply of materials. Additionally, oak was used for a custom bed with a headboard and nightstands in the main bedroom. Other surfaces are in color-related, neutral tones but with important texture: light gray-beige cement plaster or light gray variably toned tiles in a herringbone pattern.

In the spatially simple, materially, and colorfully calm interior, the bathrooms stand out as a slightly exaggerated exception. As small enclosed spaces, it can afford this, and it was also an opportunity for users to have something unique. The result was rooms with plaster in a dark green tone combined with black stone and accents of larch cabinets, shelves, or ceiling. Another specialty was transforming the originally designed garage into a gym, where the floor appeared in a single bright, stimulating color in the house.
